Before the match, against Lincoln City, Bradford City had received The Third Division Championship trophy. 56 ( fifty six ) people lost their lives and over 265 ( two hundred and sixty five ) were seriously injured. The fire in the main stand was caused by a lit cigarette which fell on rubbish when it slipped through floorboards and igniting it.
